We sat down for an exclusive interview with IST’s Linda Muller, CRM, IGP, Vice President of Records and Information Management, in order to gain a little insight into her career path, how she began with IST, and what sets her apart from others in this industry.
With twenty years of experience consulting with multiple Fortune 500 and AmLaw150 customers, IST Management is proud to have Linda in this leadership role, overseeing support to clients including the design, implementation, and maintenance of records management systems as well as policy, procedure and protocol development. Along with Linda’s experience, her certifications in Records Management and Information Governance Professional (IGP) are what differentiate Linda from others in her position. These certifications first require a certain number of years’ experience as a supervisor in records organization and are not open to just anyone.
Prior to joining IST Management, Linda had the same title at Ricoh and before that, at Pitney Bowes. As a consultant and solution design consultant, it was Linda’s job to implement solutions for customers, along with supporting their operations team. With a records program already established, IST was looking to create structure, to ensure we were capable of being able to support solutions to our clients throughout the life of their contract. For Linda, making the decision to come to IST was due to the opportunity she would have to help build the program, not just run it.
Helping IST clients meet their business objectives is an essential part of Linda’s position. By making sure we are designing solutions that actually help our customers meet their compliance regulations and requirements was essential. For example, with retention scheduling and disposition, there are many firms that Linda has spoken with who are overwhelmed with the amount of paper documents they have to keep, and just don’t know where to begin with organizing. This is where Linda steps in to help with managing, developing and propelling the process forward, making sure that principles are in place to help the firm move forward, and often times this involves transitioning from paper to electronic record keeping.
Linda is very supportive of IST’s DocStor Records program, which she is directly involved in. DocStor Records is a great solution for smaller firms that are using Microsoft Excel or Word programs to track their files. DocStor Records proposes a way to capture those records, create a special barcode for each file, perfectly organizes the information and applies a retention period to the files to ensure they are destroyed or returned to the client in the appropriate timeline. IST is currently looking for organizations that are willing to Beta test DocStor Records in exchange for some very nice incentives.
IST has provided Linda with the opportunity to be a creative, resourceful and innovative consultant. She enjoys working on-site with customers, collaborating on a solution and problem solving, with a passion for working with these partners and helping them integrate a better, streamlined workflow, efficiency, reduced cost and increased compliance of risk management policies and procedures. Linda feels that the best part of working for IST is being able to create and share information, not only with IST’s customers but with IST’s Team, understand more about records management and the important role it has.
Establishing yourself as a trusted source is not an easy task, but Linda has been able to demonstrate real-life examples of her work with firms in order to establish such credibility. Linda states, “I think one of the things that is important too, is that we all continue our professional development. Hopefully, people look at me and see some type of role model. I’m on the Association of Records Managers and Administrators on the Board of Directors. I have a little bit of visibility in the ARMA community. Every year, I take 3 or 4 days of my personal vacation time to attend the IRMS Conference. It’s establishing and maintaining yourself in the community and giving back. This year I will be speaking at the IRMS Conference in Wales, UK.”
Linda is an amazing asset to IST, developing a program and establishing guidelines in order to elevate our customers and aid in the growth of IST. She is a dynamic part of our company and IST is proud to have her as part of our Executive Team!
